So basically it is what it is, are finals really worth it?
I don't think they are cause it's just an excuse to keep us worked up for nothing
No not really because lets face it, most of us forget half of what we've learned during the semester. lol!

I think they are. just because if you have lost some of your grade heres a chance to make it up big time! if you take the time.
Yeah... That's true! Good point!

I guess you're right, but it's so dumb to me..
Wait until college, then they'll definitely be worth it. Your teachers just want to see what you've learned and how much you've retained throughout the semester.
Finals or exit exams do help a lot. Allthough most may hate it because its nerve wrecking and it takes a lot of our time when we study for those, like what the previous poster stated, its a good for the teachers to evaluate what you've learned throughout the semester. In my opinion, finals are easier in college because your not taking it in lined with other classes. In college you have the option to schedule your classes in different days whereas in high school, you have one fixed schedule and you got to take all your finals all at ones which makes it a bit harder. From what I've noticed so far, in college some instructors give you an essay to write as your final. It may be in the form of term papers or research papers. Sometimes if the instructor is really nice, your final would be a short reflection about what you've learned from the class. Some instructors give you a hands on final which can be a bit harder. I think, one of the most difficult classes I took was Biology. My biology finals was so hard, but I'm glad that I'm done taking the class.
I think that finals really are worth it. I totally agree with Cassandra and poster 3. Finals can give your grade quite a boost, and some teachers would like to know how much students have retained from the entire semester. And not only do the finals count for a large part of your grade, but the study guide, if given, can also bring your grade up a letter.
Well I think they are worth it. Going into my Sophomore year of College in the Fall, I think that finals are a test to see if you really learned anything over the course of the Semester or not. (my finals last Semester were difficult) but I did pass all my classes which I'm happy about. For some classes though, I don't really think finals are worth it. Depends on the class. But really it's a test to see what you've learned and if you could retain the information from the beginning of the Semester until the end.

KI know that in high school, where I went anyway, finals did not count for much of your grade. I was exempt from most of my finals in high school because of grades and absences. I only had to take two finals in high school. By contrast, in college, finals are worth it. Last semester, I was borderline in most of my classes, and I studied really hard for the finals. Those finals pushed my overall grade up. A few times, because of the way my classes worked out, I have had two finals in one day, but that's the most I have in a day.
